Woodfire a traditional take on pizza

Diners in Decatur are now able to enjoy wood-fired pizza at a new restaurant on the city’s north side.

Il Forno WoodFire Pizza and Italian Restaurant at 1423 E. Mound Road serves pizza cooked from an original, custom-made Italian wood-fired pizza oven, owner Qamil Ballahzi said. The pizza oven burns using logs with the temperature inside reaching 800 degrees, said Ballahzi, who has been in the restaurant business for 22 years.

When cooked, the pizzas come out crisp and with a taste different than ones cooked in traditional pizza ovens, Ballahzi said.

The menu includes soups, sandwiches, pastas and more, along with a full bar. The kitchen is open for lunch and dinner.

“We are excited to be able to offer fine dining in a fun, friendly and upbeat atmosphere,” Ballazhi said.

The restaurant seats up to 120 diners and has added 40 jobs.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Call 876-9900.
